Hello Tiger Families/Bonjour les Familles de Tigres!
Just like that, June is here. There are 20 school days remaining, believe it or not! During the final 4 weeks, an incredible amount will be achieved. Students will be busy consolidating their learning and beginning to celebrate all of their achievements. There will be assemblies. There will be athletic events. There will be a welcome tour for the youngest students joining us in September. And there will be a graduation for our oldest students, the mighty grade 8s. It’s a very busy, joyous time. It can also be a time full of stress and worry over the end of the school year and what the summer and next year may look like. As always, please keep in mind that everyone needs a little help once in a while. If your child is expressing worries and support is needed, please connect with your child’s teacher. We’re happy to build in support to aid the transition to end of year/start of summer/thinking about the 2022- 23 school year.
May was another great month for athletics. Our flag football teams rocked the tournament. MAC had champs in all areas. Of greater value was the leadership, adaptability, flexibility, patience and tolerance that the students on the football teams demonstrated. I personally am always so proud to hear how the students navigated the field and the day. The sportspersonship was remarkable and admirable. The team stayed competitive and did so with great maturity and a sense of fun. Way to go Tigers!
May’s theme was mental health. As a school, we recognized that well- being includes many things, with one of those things being mental health. We talked about what we can do as individuals to access support and what we can do as a friend to listen and guide another in making connections to improve mental health. We are fortunate to have a wide number of supports in Bluewater to ensure we’re taking care of our whole self. Students showed that they are a person who cares and can listen and help by wearing blue for every Wicked Wow Wednesday. We will continue to strive to remove the stigma and build in positive thinking towards mental well- being.
June is all about identity. You will notice the Pride flag flying outside of the school. This is done to reflect, recognize and celebrate diversity. Macphail is committed to cultivating a safe and inclusive space for all. Research has proven that a GSA run at a school leads to healthier, happier students with higher academic achievements. MAC is lucky to have a GSA. Students and staff deserve the freedom to be themselves. By wearing bright colors every Wednesday for the month of June, the student body and staff will show their belief that everyone is celebrated and that diversity is valued.
The fan favorite of “Comfie Cozy Day” will be every Monday. Friday Funnies will continue as will MAC Attack Fridays (wear your school gear/school colors). Pizza Wednesday will continue right until the end of the school year.
